Fern Britton has hit back at criticism following her revelation that she had a gastric band fitted after previously saying her svelte new figure was down to dieting, insisting, "there are some things a girl likes to keep to herself."
At the weekend, the 50-year-old star of ITV's This Morning was forced to admit that her drastic weight loss was, in fact, the result of the gastric band surgery.
She said, "I would just like to clear something up. Two years ago I had a gastric band, and, do you know what? I did it for me, because I wanted to.
"I didn't feel that I had the need to ring around and let everyone know. Only five people knew."
She then claimed it was actually the celebrity magazines that made up stories about her saying her new shape was all down to diet and exercise.
She added, "All the magazines started printing articles saying all this stuff and a lot of it was not actually from my lips. So anything you've read that has anything I�ve said about image, diet, blah blah, I haven't said.
"I've been very careful for the past two years and said, 'Yes I eat less and exercise more' which is absolutely true.
"I didn�t lie, and there's no need to lie."
Britton then admitted that not even her agent knew of her gastric op.
But the busty TV personality also warned her fat fans not to follow her example.
She said, "Don't go off doing it yourselves now because then I�ll be blamed for that as well."
